The Handmade Fair: The festival of crafting

Kirstie Allsopp seriously  knows how to pull of a craft fair, the Handmade Fair is hands down the coolest craft fair around.  Set in the grounds of Hampton Court the fair has a real festival feel, from the Big Top tent hosting the Super Theatre, the village of marquees and tents holding endless workshops & beautiful stands of handmade products and crafting supplies.

The Handmade Fair covers every craft imaginable, from knitting, sewing & crochet to paper crafts, printing & jewellery and then you have upcycling, cooking and cocktail making!!!  You will be able to tailor your day to develop your skills in a craft you already love or have a taster of something new.  Tickets include being inspired by a guest speaker in the Super Theatre plus developing your skills by choosing 2 workshops, the difficulty will be choosing which classes to attend.

When the crafting gets to much, you can refuel in the endless gourmet outlets.  Honestly the food choice rivals Jamie Oliver’s BigFeastival!  The softshell crab burger and glass of fizz in the Art Deco bar was perfect to give us our second wind for the afternoon of crafting fun. (I honestly didn’t have a salted caramel brownie…that would just be greedy!)

It wouldn’t be an accurate review if I didn’t mention the shopping villages, they are crammed full of unique stalls all showcasing a beautiful range of handmade products, kits, patterns & crafting materials.  We bumped into a few friends as we browsed the tents.

The full team from Tilly and the buttons where show casing their latest patterns.

Jules from Sew Me Something at the Handmade Fair

The lovely Jules from Sew Me Something who squeezed in a quick photo in between Janome sewing workshops.

Hannah from Bobo Stitch at the Handmade fair

A special thanks to Hannah from BoBo Stitch for sending us tickets!   I can’t wait to give the cross stitch kit a try, it even glows in the dark!!

Debs at the handmade fair

My highlight of the day had to be seeing Sewing Bee Deb’s and meeting her beautiful daughter Evelyn.  Deb’s is a true super star running daily workshops after having Evelyn only 4 weeks ago!

All in all a fantastic day, filled with wonderful crafts, interesting people and feeling happy returning home with so many beautiful things.  I feel I might have to visit the Christmas Handmade Fair in Manchester…

Over and out

The stitcher. A magnet for foolery & prankster at heart. Loves being creative, whether with some wood and a saw or with a needle and thread. Attempts to disguise his past time activities as manly pursuits, but is actually pretty handy at sewing!

  1. Great review, I was also there on Saturday and had an amazing time, so inspired by everyone and everything, as I have said in my own blog post about the day it was ‘a crafter’s heaven’. Can’t believe my friend and I didn’t see you about as we are ‘Sewing Bee’ superfans, we loved meeting Tilly and it would’ve been great to bump into you too.

Next time Sarah…I will be at the London Knitting & Stitching show on Oct 10th and possibly at the Christmas Handmade fair. Maybe see you there?
