Apply for the Great British Sewing Bee Series 4

When I meet people at shows or on the street who watched the Great British Sewing Bee there’s a few questions I tend to get asked more than most,

  1. “How on earth did you think of something on the spot to for the alteration challenge?”
  2. “Do you still sew now?”
  3. “Is there going to be another series of the Sewing Bee?”

Well I can normally answer the first two confidently, but until late I’ve been unable to do the same for the last one.  For some reason the BBC hasn’t shared that particular little detail with me and I too have been left wondering will there be another GBSB series?

Will I be the first and last bloke to win it?….Will we ever get to hear Claudia’s gentle persuasive and informative tones?…Does May ever get angry?…Will the kilt episode be the most leg Patrick will show the baying public?

People, our time of wondering is officially over!!! It’s a big hearty “YES”

‘Great, 10 more unsuspecting sewists to be sacrificed in the name of entertainment?’ I hear you say.  Well take it from me that it’s not the case, and heres why…

During my time on the show (all 6 episodes) I had the absolute pleasure of meeting 9 other fantastically talented stitchers from all over this beautiful island of ours, sharing in some wonderful highs, supporting and hugging out some little blips along the way.

I truly made some amazing friends for life. People are amazed that we really do keep in touch most days sharing our most recent makes or asking each other advise, oh and the occasional picture of Deborah’s super cute baby!

I also felt that as a homegrown stitcher I found so much inner confidence and gathered the ability to throw caution to the wind over the weeks and challenged myself each in each and every task. (Here’s my full Sewing Bee journey)

So what am I saying?

Well perhaps you’ve got the knack to tame any sewing machine you touch, maybe you can handle pressure well or sew to a time limit, you could even be one of those who can think on their feet and turn something out of nothing.

Why not really challenge yourself and submit your application, what have you got to lose? I did, and I’ve never looked back.

There are a few rules that you should be aware of before your apply;

  • you must be over 16.
  • you haven’t obtained any NVQ or other sewing related qualification in the last 10 years or have ever worked as a dressmaker, tailor, pattern cutter etc.
  • Your main source of income must not come from a sewing related job.

So, if you fancy giving it a try, you can apply for the Great British Sewing Bee series 4 here on the BBC Shows and Tours website.

Applications need to be submitted by Sunday 8th November.

Good luck, I can’t wait to see you on my tellybox!

The stitcher. A magnet for foolery & prankster at heart. Loves being creative, whether with some wood and a saw or with a needle and thread. Attempts to disguise his past time activities as manly pursuits, but is actually pretty handy at sewing!

Have been looking out for the up dated British Sewing Bee application form for 2017.
Am hoping that this is the way to get in?
I was lucky enough to learn sewing at school, primary and secondary, in the days when it was once a week and only for girls! I ve enjoyed sewing all my life and am at present sewing for my first grandchild and those of my friends. I would like to set up my own business next year but The Sewing Bee needs to come first! I would love to be considered for the next series of Sewing Bee. I made my suit for my sobs wedding, then made and designed my own wedding dress with no experience other than what I have learned myself. Here’s hoping.

I would love an application for for 2017, and always making thing for my children in my spare time, love watching the show, I am a production assembler in a caravan factory, my mother taught me to sow at an early age

  10. I would dearly love to rise to the Sewing Bee challenge! I am a cake maker by trade but my secret passion is sewing. I love working with different textiles and haberdashery and have an imaginative side that could inspire me to come up with different designs in the competition. I’m not a chocolate box to look at but have a soft centre inside, maybe a tad nutty. Please give my heartfelt application some consideration!!
